September 2014: 2.True Blue Interlude

One of our best new plants of the past couple years is Darrell Probst's hybrid gentian, Gentiana 'True Blue'. The plant is not hard to grow, and the flower color is really, truly blue, without the lavender or purple that can pass for blue in gardens or that mixes with most would-be blues.  Our 'True Blue' gentians don't start blooming until very late in the summer, but they stay in bloom for some time-- and make elegant and lasting cut flowers for small vases.
